What is a turbocharger?
A turbocharger can be described as a supercharger driven by exhaust gas. It uses the energy of the exhaust gas leaving the engine to compress the intake air and force more air into the engine.
What are the benefits of a turbocharger?
You obtain more power from a small engine than its size would suggest. It reduces exhaust emissions and improves fuel economy.
How does a turbocharger work?
The air–fuel mixture burnt in the combustion chamber becomes exhaust gas and is pushed through the exhaust valves into the exhaust manifold. That gas spins the turbine wheel; the compressor wheel on the same shaft compresses the intake air and forces it into the engine.
What should be considered when fitting a turbocharger?
Before fitting, the cleanliness of the oil and air circuits, correct oil pressure and filter condition are critical. Our technical team can support you before and after installation.
How do I identify a turbocharger fault?
Loss of power, excessive smoke, oil leaks and abnormal noise are the most common symptoms. For fault diagnosis you can reach our technical support line at teknik@turboakden.com.
What is the history of the turbocharger?
The history of the turbocharger is almost as old as the internal combustion engine itself. In 1885 and 1896, Gottlieb Daimler and Rudolf Diesel investigated compressing the intake air in order to increase engine power and reduce fuel consumption.
